nine lives aims to cherish its poets just as much as their poetry.
our issues will feature nine aotearoa poets, each offering a concise collection of work they feel embodies them as artists and individuals.
the result - a capsule of the nine lives lived by our beloved poets.
meet the team -
holly rowsell (she/her) is the founder of nine lives! she is a poet, lover of cherries and student of philosophy and gender living in te whanganui-a-tara. you can find her work in catalyst, sweet mammalian and tarot, among other journals.
kieran trainor (they/them) is an artist, writer and sun seeker. they run a blog called sun guts that explores research in queer ecological thought and anecdotal experience. both their art and their poetry explores place, animality and that third, nature-given space where we all go to be born again. they live in te whanganui-a-tara where they amble between museums and the oceans.
mauatua is a mā’ohi-norf’k student based in te whanganui-a-tara. their work is fuelled by mana vāhine and trans-indigenous networks of solidarity, and can be found in salient, overcomm, bad apple, starling, and the occasional exhibition.
